The Sacrament of Confirmation continues the process of Christian Initiation. Through this sacrament, one is sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Christ Himself received the gift of the Holy Spirit after His Baptism (Mt 3:16-17) and we see the reception of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands deemed necessary after Baptism by the apostles of the early Church (Acts 8:14-17, 19:5-6).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church lists five effects of Confirmation:

  • It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation (as sons of God) which makes us cry, “Abba! Father!”

  • It unites us more firmly to Christ

  • It increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us

  • It renders our bond with the Church more perfect

  • It gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the cross.

Our High School Confirmation preparation program begins in the late summer leading up to their Freshman year and concludes in early spring. Preparation includes participation in the Life Teen program PURPOSE and other student ministry events, as well as a few Confirmation specific formation sessions in the Winter semester.

The sealing of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation is the final sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church. If, for whatever reason, you have not received this powerful sacrament but have been Baptized and received Holy Communion, we encourage you to do so! During the Spring Semester, Adult Confirmation preparation is offered through a 4-5 week course.

If interested in Adult Confirmation preparation, contact Rona Skelton, Faith Formation Director at
